The Podcast

Our podcast series feature notable musicians, practitioners and academics who offer a variety of perspectives on the question: “What is the role of music in bringing about social justice?” Each of our guests has a unique perspective which we hope will inspire young musicians to think creatively about ways to use their own unique voice to make an impact in their community. We discuss some of the most rewarding aspects of this kind of work, as well as some of the challenges and common pitfalls to look out for.

Powerful & inspiring insights

I’m so pleased to have found this podcast, it’s been so insightful to hear about the different experiences of guests and how they use music as a tool for social justice. Holly & Rebecca are great hosts and present in a respectful and thoughtful manner. Would especially recommend to anyone bored of cliches like “art for arts’ sake” – this goes well beyond and explores art for HUMANITY’S sake !!

Especially in the black community, music and resilience are practically inseparable… but I felt like this is something I already knew because of my experience.”

Clarke Randolph

“So rather than looking up at institutions and people with power, I would like them to see the people with power and institutions supporting you from below.”

Dr. Omar Shahryar, Opera Schmopera

“Having a connection with prisons in the area is really powerful for that community, it really demystifies the whole thing…”
